We’re breaking the mould to make CSI count

Socio-economic development is about changing mindsets and empowering people with skills. We see corporate social investment as an extension of our business activities and culture.

It’s about people helping people to build relationships.

We’re a company dedicated to using technology to solve Africa’s challenges, and we apply this approach to our corporate social investment.

Our staff members are instrumental in identifying suitable organisations. They also invest their personal time in the projects. For example, when we donate computers to an organisation, our employees often take time out of their weekends to install the equipment and instruct the beneficiaries on how to use it effectively, rather than outsourcing these functions.

Social Responsibility

“The future belongs to those who recognise that young Africans, particularly women, will drive the next set of innovations in this sector”
– Xoliswa Kakana, Executive Chair and Group CEO

Given our history and profile, projects that help women enter the technology industry are a priority. Numerous studies have shown that investing in women creates a ripple effect because of their propensity to invest in the education of their own families.

Future of the African Daughter (FOTAD)

The Future of the African Daughter (FOTAD) project aims to change the lives of girl-children in townships and rural areas by providing maths, science, ICT and life skills, complemented by leadership training.

Thuthukani Centre

Another key principle of our social investment agenda is providing non-profit organisations with self-identified needs. For example, when long-standing partner Thuthukani Centre (which looks after orphans and vulnerable children in Ivory Park) indicated it needed a large fridge, we were happy to help.

Bathabeleng Children’s Home

We’ve provided Bathabeleng Children’s Home with a printer and laptop as well as a fridge, groceries and blankets.

Agang Sechaba

Another ongoing partnership is with Agang Sechaba, an organisation founded and led by professional women with a focus on child-headed households, orphanages and unemployed women.

Akuwa Akili Academy

“People ultimately buy from, and trust, other people. For us, then, it’s critical not only that we attract and retain people with the right skills and attitude, but that we also provide our existing staff with clear opportunities to grow within the company—we want our people to see us as the employer of choice.”
Sindi Msibi , Managing Executive: Transport

Our in-house training academy is proudly known as Akuwa Akili Academy, which is Kiswahili for ‘be intelligent, be prosperous’.
